Water Sector Natural Disaster Threat Briefing – Crisis Communications and Community Engagement for Natural Disasters and Other Emergencies

Wednesday, February 21, 2024; 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ET

On February 21 at 2 pm ET, WaterISAC will convene the next event in its quarterly Water Sector Natural Disaster Threat Briefings series. The focus of this briefing will be crisis communications and community engagement, and WaterISAC will welcome briefers from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District who will offer best practices, lessons learned, and other useful tips. Effective crisis communications and community engagement can be a significant factor in reducing impacts to customers during disasters and other scenarios when services are threatened. However, the advent of the digital age and social media has made getting reliable information out to the public in a timely manner challenging, as false rumors typically spread faster than truth. In addition, documenting crisis communication plans and engaging with the community before a disaster can reduce impacts to infrastructure services in the event of a disaster. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about crisis communications from your peers and enhance your utility’s capabilities.
