Water Sector Cyber Threat Web Briefing – Are You Asking the Right Questions when Evaluating IoT SaaS Vendors?

Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 2:00 – 3:00 PM ET

Following up on the August Cyber Threat Web Briefing, which examined how IoT devices can be exploited for initial access and lead to incidents like ransomware attacks in IT and OT environments, WaterISAC’s September briefing will focus on the questions your utility should be asking its IoT software as a service (SaaS) vendors. Unfortunately, there have been numerous incidents of water and wastewater utilities being affected because of a vulnerability in a SaaS vendor’s product. These incidents highlight the need to understand and factor in the security of prospective and existing providers to prevent vulnerabilities that can open the door to threats.

For this month’s Cyber Threat Briefing, Senior Director of Product Security Brad Bitterman of Mueller Water Products will delve into questions your utility should ask and other important considerations it should take into account when assessing IoT SaaS vendors. He’ll also discuss the increasing practice of vendor vulnerability programs and what your utility’s expectations and responsibilities should be for these. WaterISAC encourages its members to learn more about these important topics and reduce the risk of being affected by a future incident.
